MT. VERNON, IA – The Lady Eagles are pleased to welcome Kelsey Shady to their team for the next four years.
Shady, a 5'7 pin hitter from Mt. Vernon, Iowa, lettered with the Mt. Vernon Mustangs - one of the state's historically dominant programs. The Lady Mustangs made trips to the IGHSAU Class 3A State Tournament each year that Shady played. Kelsey also trained and competed with two USA Volleyball club teams - Rapid Spikers and Precision One Volleyball (where she played both indoor and beach).
Kelsey was very busy off the court in high school as well. She was involved in FCA, and made it through the tough selection process to become a member of the Iowa American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program. She was also on the golf and cheerleading teams, and spent more than 300 hours as a volunteer counselor at Camp Wyoming.
"Kelsey is one of the most positive players I have interacted with, and as soon as we met I knew she would be a great addition to our team," said Coach Pitman. "She has put in a lot of hard work in her career, she has been well coached, and she has good insight into the game and her own skill set. I expect Kelsey will impact our team not only with her play but also with her great attitude and spirit."
"I chose to attend Emmaus because of the small size which will help me excel academically," said Shady. "I'm looking forward to improving my volleyball skills at Emmaus and having the chance to play with a wonderful group of girls who play for the same reasons I do - for the love of the game and for something greater than themselves."
Kelsey is the daughter of Jeremy and Maria Shady. She plans to study Elementary Education at Emmaus.
