PEMBROKE, NC – The Emmaus volleyball team has completed their 2017 roster with the signing of Paige Sweeney from Pembroke, North Carolina.
Sweeney, a 5'11 middle hitter, spent her prep career at Purnell-Swett High, where she earned two varsity letters for the Lady Rams. She served as team captain her senior year, was voted Best Offensive Player and team MVP, and earned Scholar Athlete of the Month recognition. Sweeney also made the SEC All-Conference Team as a senior. A highly skilled athlete, Paige also lettered in basketball and soccer at Purnell Swett.
"Paige is a great addition to our team as we increase our presence at the net," commented Coach Pitman. "She is passionate about volleyball, and I believe she will fit in well with her teammates. We are looking forward to having her on board this fall!"
Paige's former coach, Courtney Hill, had this to say about her: "Paige is an exceptional leader on and off the court. She exhibits her leadership skills through her actions and is a great representation of what being a student athlete is all about. Paige is very motivated on the court as well as in the classroom and will not settle. She strives daily to improve her skills and pushes her teammates to be the best too."
"I had heard about Emmaus for a couple years and hadn't ever really considered going until recently. I felt like God was putting it on my heart to look into it and to see how it would be a good fit for me," said Paige. "After doing a lot of research and speaking to some family that attended, I decided to go and experience what Emmaus has to offer."
"I'm looking forward to being part of a competitive team again and having the opportunity to play volleyball," Sweeney continued. "I'm ready to see how this team plays with each other and pushes each other to be better players and individuals."
Paige is the daughter of John and Pamela Sweeney, and plans to enter the Pre-Professional Health Studies program at Emmaus.
