HAVILAND, KS - The Lady Eagles achieved what they set out to do in August, as they played their best ball of the season and earned a second place finish in the Midwest Christian College Conference Tournament.
Emmaus, as regular season runners-up, received a bye in the first round of the tournament as the second seed and faced off against a large blocking Faith Baptist squad in the semi-finals on Friday. Faith came into the match fresh from an upset sweep of Calvary University in the quarterfinals.
Both teams were hungry for a chance to go to the championship match, and each set had tight moments when the score was close. However the Lady Eagles were able to stick to the plan they laid out before the match, and came away with a three set sweep to punch their ticket to the championship.
Emmaus knew they would be in for a difficult task on Saturday as they took on the #1 seeded and nationally ranked Lady Thunder of Manhattan Christian College. The Lady Eagles were determined to give Manhattan a hard match, and stayed true to their word - falling in straight sets but by small margins in each (20-25, 23-25, 20-25).
"We reminded ourselves on a weekly basis starting in August that our goal was to play our best volleyball of the season in November. It's been amazing to see this team improve over the course of the season, and we definitely saw our best play this weekend!" exclaimed Coach Pitman. "Coach Richter and I had a great time watching our ladies perform everything they have been working on to the best of their abilities, and they are to be commended for obtaining such a great result in our tough conference. They played with joy and energy and confidence, and we are very proud of them!"
The Lady Eagles now turn their sights to the NCCAA North Region Championships, which be hosted by Maranatha Baptist University this weekend. The Lady Eagles have earned a first round bye, and will face the winner of the match between Providence University College and Trinity Bible College this Friday at 6:00 pm.
