Emmaus Men's Basketball Comes up Short at Maranatha
The Emmaus Men's Basketball Team battled down to the wire but came up just short in a 73–69 loss to Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday night.
The Eagles led 39–38 at halftime after a strong first half that saw balanced scoring and several momentum-shifting defensive plays.
Landon Bland and Nathaniel Wagner each scored 11 points to lead the Eagles. Bland was sharp from beyond the arc, hitting 3-of-4 three-pointers, while Wagner added 3 assists and 3 steals. David Rothweiler and Josh Stewart also chipped in 9 points apiece, and Eli Mackey contributed 7 points and 3 steals. Savion Edwards sparked Emmaus off the bench with 10 points and a team-high 9 rebounds.
Emmaus struggled to get the ball through the net, shooting 38% from the field (29-of-76) and 27% from three (6-of-22), while Maranatha hit 41% overall and 6-of-18 from deep. The Eagles won the turnover battle with 13 steals, turning Maranatha's 18 miscues into 13 points, but were edged 35–31 on the glass and outscored 11–5 at the free-throw line.
After trailing 70–69 in the final minute, Emmaus couldn't convert a late three-point attempt, and Maranatha sealed the win at the line.
The Eagles drop to 1-2 on the season and get back to work on Saturday against Moody Bible at 2:00 pm in Pollard Fieldhouse.
